People often ask me, “What is Nia?”. Nia is not something that I practice because I wish my body looked different, it’s not something that I do because I think I should get a workout in. It’s something I do because I want to. It’s fun. It feels good. It brings me joy. Are there consequences to approaching a work out by seeking pleasure? Yes. I have the opportunity to self heal every time I move by sensing my body and moving in a way that is right for me. I’ve stopped being amazed every time I am able to keep up with activities like mountain biking, downhill skiing, sledding, taking an Insanity class with an American Ninja Warrior (yes - I actually did that this weekend), and hiking. Nia has made my body strong, flexible, agile, mobile, and stable - all without pushing through pain of any kind. Another piece of Nia that keeps me coming back is the community. Everyone is honored and respected - just where you are. Some may be celebrating finishing a marathon and others are celebrating getting down to the floor and back up again without assistance. Watching the Nia community support one another is truly amazing. I would recommend that anyone interested in the class come and check it out. Come as you are. Your are perfect as is. Nia is waiting for you!
